Actually, at 12 years old, he could be developing a problem. Please schedule a vet visit very soon. My cat is 14, and he developed mega colon when he was 13. He urinated in the box, but he did his doo doo in other places. When he wasn't going outside the box, he was constipated. Has your cat been constipated?

If not that, then the litter box location may be a problem given his age and joints. You may consider moving the box closer to where he hangs out most of the day and night.

Good luck!

>>I read many requests about urinating problems, but ours is the other end! Zekie is perfect about using his litter box for urinating (and he's had urinary blockage problems in the past), but from time to time will poopy on my bed. He sleeps on the bed, too. It is actually his favorite place to nap and sleep at night. I guess I could understand if he was mad at me, but this is his bed too. Zekie is 12 years and having some old age problems (moving slower, hips are getting stiff) but he is in good spirits and very lovey. This has been an ongoing thing for a couple years and I just can't get a handle on it. Please help us. It is causing hard feelings with my boyfriend (who loves Zekie bunches also). We just don't feel it's a medical thing. What possibly could be the reason for this?
