Is there a way you could leave the kitten behind, withs someone checking on it frequently? This would be the best solution.

There is no safe way to medicate a cat with tranquilizers. They are very unpredictable. Benadryl could make the more active! You could try some Rescue Remedy - rub a couple of drops into the tips of the ears every few hours.
