hello all, I'm in a bit of a conundrum because my cat will refuse to use his catbox to defacate about 80% of the time. he has been doing this on and off sice he was a kitten, but for the past six months its gotten pretty bad and my father is threatening to throw him out. When i first looked into the problem I figured it was an issue of the box not being clean enough, so we started cleaning it more often and tried to make sure that the box have no fecal matter in it at all so that he would use it. That worked for a bit but then he started his normal behavior so I thought maybe it was because our female cats urine was very basic, and gave off too much of an ammonia smell. we switched her food and that has helped control the Ph balance in her urinary system, but my male cat still used the carpetting instead of the rug. we then got another cat box, one upstairs one downstairs so that each cat could have their own box, that situation also worked for about one month and then he started using the rugs again. we've even tried switching litters to keep him from using the rugs, but nothing seems to be working. has anyone else encountered this problem? what did you do to fix it? I'm at wits end trying to figure out what is bothering him so much, and would really appreciate any advice offered. thanks for any help! *ash
