Hi folks. Im normally over on the Reptile boards, but my wife's cat has driven me to seek a solution from the experienced. We're dealing with a devious cat here, he knows when I'm home and when I'm not. So, when no one is around, he jumps up onto the counter tops. Normally it wouldnt be a big deal, but the counters and cook top are black, and the cat is solid white, and he sheds like crazy, so there are always clear signs he's been up there. Never ever once in the 5 years I've lived with this cat has he ever been up there when Im actually home. His litterbox is clay too, so he leaves little pawprints all over everything too.
So, in short, my question is how do I keep the cat off the counters when no one is around? Is it even possible?
A friend of mine gave me his puppy mousetraps. They're basically mousetraps modified with huge plastic paddles on them to "swat" at the animal that trips them, but cats are too cautious and not clumsy like dogs, so it didnt work at all.
I know you can use cloves on the counters to keep ants away, so is there some kind of home herbal remedy that might smell fine to us that cats detest? I dunno, Im just brainstorming....
Below is a video I shot of him being friendly with an outdoor neighbor (NOT!!). Caution for those who may need it - Bad language. He's 100% indoor cat, and lives alone, and you'll see why. He tries to kill any poor animal his own size.
