Does lap sitting = cuddly?

The discussion on these boards and in chats is making me think about this lap issue. I've come to the conclusion that too much emphasis is being placed on lap sitting.

I have two super affectionate cats. One likes to cuddle so that he's touching me all the time. If I would follow his wishes and sit still all day, he'd be cuddled against me every minute. But he rarely sits on my lap. Usually he cuddles next to me, and often he puts one or more paws on or under me. I guess I'm a good foot warmer.

My other cat always wants to be ON me, but never on my lap. When I'm sitting, he likes to sit on my feet. He tries to sit on my shoulders, but he doesn't really fit. Hence the long scratch marks down my back as he slips, but that's another story. However, if I'm laying on my stomach, he loves to lay on my back, legs, head, or feet.

Neither cat will select my lap as a spot to cuddle up on. I don't know if this says more about my cats or my lap.

Anyone else experiencing this?
