My cats' names are Star and Quentin. Star's shelter name was "Black Star" and I just dropped the first part when she was adopted. I got Quentin's name from the old TV show "Dark Shadows" which had a character named Quentin.
I've always preferred human names over pet names for my cats.
I don't think that the name has any effect on how they're treated by me or others, at least not in my case.
