You acted like a dangerous predator by grabbing with your front paws, chasing, and roaring at him. This did far more damage than the snit the cat was in over the kitten. Virtually all adult cats hisspitt at kittens. It's their way of reminding the younger one of who is in charge (and it's NOT the kitten).
