>>I have an older male cat (about 9 months). I brought home a new kitten yesterday. I have kept them separated, and have had them together several times, but only for a few minutes. My older cat has been licking the kitten, and then biting her. Once, he even picked her up by her neck and was carrying her around. Is this normal? Is it only play, or should I be worried. Also, the cats have the same mother. I don't know if this will affect their relationship in any way.

Sounds like everything is going well. And that your new kitten has a foster mommy. I would still keep an eye on them just in case the 9 month old gets a little rough with the baby. What are their names and what do they look like?
