During this separation you should also switch them around so that each has a chance to explore the other's "territory". Then you can try placing one cat in a carrier and letting the other cat sniff around - then reverse the roles. Joint feeding sessions are next - with widely separated dishes. Joint play sessions work well too. And don't forget the old "towel trick". You rub one cat with a towel then the other so you exchange scents.
