Cats do strange things when they work out their places in the hierarchy. There is not a whole lot you can do - in fact interferring to much could upset the delicate balance they are working on.

Keep on trying, but don't get in the way too much. I am sorry the newbie is not as friendly as she used to be, but in time that may change.
