In my experience this leads to something of a "gosh, he must have come with the apartment" attitude from the cats involved. They will still go through and adjustment period, but having a mutally neutral territory should work to your advantage, with any luck. Additionally, since this will be a stressful time for all 3 of the kitties, I side with Madame Alto's suggestion of Feliway. Good luck!
