Mine hid for two months after we adpoted her. She was nine years old and came from a breder, so I am not sure how well she was treated.

First she his under the couch and would only come out at night or when we were away at work. Then she hid in the linen closet where at least we could pet her while she felt safe. She loved being petted but still wouldn't come out.

Now she follows me everywhere and sleeps with me, but it took a lot of time and effort by me to get her to trust me and my husband. Your cat will come out once she determines that you guys are safe...If you force him/her, it will just take longer for him/her to trust you.

On the other hand,we just adopted a 2 month old kitten as well an she has not been shy at all.

Good luck
Sylvia
