It's very hard to predict what will happen when you adopt an additional cat. So much depends on the personalities of the cats involved.

Your cat might be fine with a playmate, especially if the playmate is very mellow and not too rambunctious. Although a lot of people recommend adopting the oposite sex, there are some males who will actually prefer a male companion. Again, it is up to the individual cats.

Take a good look at your cat. Even though he was a "scaredy cat" when he went for a visit, this could be more of a fright over new surrounds more than the other cats. If you decide to adopt, be sure to get a kitten/cat from a rescue group who will take it back and not destroy it if things don't work out.

Good luck!
