Your cat is doing what many cats do - they prefer one box to pee in and one box to poop in. This is sort of ingrained and might be very hard to erradicate!

Is it possible to just put a box by the back door? Probably you could use a covered box and it would not be so noticible. There are many ingenious designs for litterboxes - some disguised as cabinets and some disguised as plants. Pick up an issue of Cat Fancy at the pet supply store and look at the ads in the back!

Failing that, you can try confining the kitten to a small room like the bathroom with food, water, bedding and a litterbox and see if she uses that. You might even need to confine her in a smaller space like a large dog crate or cage to get her used to using a box for both poop and pee! Then you can try gradually expanding the space she is allowed to occupy after she uses the box for both functions.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!
