I have a kitty who will some times go potty on the couch (both urination and defication) and all medical, social, emotional issues have been resolved, so I have to live with it.

Have you tried using the litters that "attract" cats to a litter box? Usually they are used for kittens or to re-train cats. I've seen them in petstores (like PetsMart). The one that comes to mind is "Cat Attract" or something like that. Maybe if he has a strong attraction to the litter, he'll use your couch less. Just a thought as it sounds like you've covered all the other avenues.
