Do try the Cat Attract litter. It very well could work for you. You can get it at PetsMart and many other pet stores. It is supposed to work well to re-train cats. It has a certain smell or something that attracts them to the litter box. Use it full-strength at first to make sure he is attracted.

It is recommended to feed kittens kitten food until they are a year old. If I remember, he is a year old in June? You may want to gradually switch him to adult food after he is a year old. Gradually by mixing the kitten food in with the adult food for about a week so his system isn't shocked by sudden food change (and he gets diarrhea or something). Start mixing a little of the new food in every day, adding more each day, until you have all new food in the dish by the end of the week. Whether you feed wet or dry is a personal choice. Many keep dry out all the time and feed wet once a day. I keep dry out all the time and never feed wet. Up to you, just make sure he has food and plenty of water available. He's a growing, active boy at his age...
