I agree that a vet check first off is the way to go to rule out any possible medical problems. His lack of appitite is of great concern. Be sure to tell the vet everything you can think of even if it seems unimportant or unrelated.
We have one cat that is just as spooky as you can imagine. She too walks slowly and cautiously. Any little noise will send her streaking for cover. While your cat can't hear anything it can feel vibrations through it's feet. Maybe something heavy fell onto the floor and your baby got scared because of the sudden vibration.
