We have a shorthair female (spayed ) who does the same thing
with a toy (always in the middle of the night and the most pitiful yowling sound) but she also does it with the fallen
flower buds from the Hybiscus tree.

Nothing like a yowling cat carrying around a dead flower in the middle of the nite ...

After 3 years of this we still can't decide if the flowerbuds
represent her imaginary baby or some prey she has caught .
