My cat April has always been a bit neurotic. Lately she has been acting out more so than usual. She is now meowing in a very strange manner at 5 in the morning! It almost sounds like she is in pain but when I check on her she is sitting in front of her food bowl and looks fine (both of her food and water bowls are full!). This behavior started last week.

She is 10 and has been on medication for a hyperthyroid condition for a little over a year. The vet says that the medication is working and she is in good health. I think we might want to switch to get a second opinion – my only reservation is that April has been going to this vet since she was a few weeks old.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this in the past? How can this behavior be stopped? She has toys, food, and water available to her when she starts crying – what should I do?
