First, take the cat to the vet for a medical exam just in case the problem is medical, although it probably isn't.

You might try putting some Bitter End or Bitter Apple on your exposed skin - it think it is harmless and it really doesn't smell bad at all. It just tastes bad to would be groomers.

The only other thing I can think of is to get another kitten for your kitty to groom. He does sound like a sweetie!
