Hello. I have two cats, a boy and a girl, both 15 years old. I got them together as kittens from the same litter--female one is a calico. I experience almost the SAME behavior that you're describing! They are so funny. They BOTH bring out items from the bedroom or bathroom periodically. Typically they are my things and their toys. Items like my brush, articles of clothing, shoes, ..it really shocks me some of the items they drag out! They also cry loudly and sound very disturbed. It does stress me out to think they are unhappy. I can't help but to look at them and give them my attention. I often say "Kitty ..come here and relax! Please!!" It's funny that both of my cats exhibit this behavior. I actually believe that they are bringing out things that represent a "catch" like a mouse or something. They are giving me or each other something. They have been indoor cats for all the 15 years I've had them so I think they yearn to fulfill those inner desires or instincts to hunt and bring me "things".. or perhaps they are trying to impress each other. I notice that my girl kitty will look at FatCat when he brings items out and seems to really pay attention to his gestures. And when Little Girl brings out items, he rushes over to try to get "amorous" with her. It's very strange behavior. It could be sexual, motherly, or hunting... could be any of those things or ALL three at different times?? They are animals afterall. The reason I don't think they are always trying to get MY attention with the behavior is because they do this while I'm gone. I often find my stuff in a little pile in the middle of the dining room at the front entrance. So, my answer to your "can anyone beat this" is I'm pretty close and understand what you're going through. Good luck!
