It sounds like your tortoiseshell is kneading on you with her paws. My cats do that to me all of the time.
The kneading behavior is a holdover from kittenhood. When they were kittens, during nursing, they would 'knead' on their mother's teat to stimulate milk flow. They would very slowly push with one front paw and draw back the other front paw, almost like 'kneading' bread.
Many times when the kittens grow, they retain their milk tread behavior because it makes them feel secure and relaxed. A lot of adult cats also display this behavior.
