We adopted 2 females (Odie the tortie and Munchies the tabby) two years ago. They were in the same foster home and were the greatest of friends. At home, they would sleep together and groom each other. We also have an older manx female, Oreo, who watches after them and keep them out of trouble.

Last September, we evacuated due to hurricanes Frances and Jeanne to my inlaws two blocks away. Their house was newer and had the latest hurricane safeties. Needless to say, our house was damaged during the storms. We lived at my inlaws for 9 months while repairs were being made. The cats were not happy about living there but were soon happy with their new "temporary" accommodations. Except, Odie and Munchies started to fight. Odie developped a case of Bartonella in November and again in June. I have been monitoring her behavior towards Munchies and she seems normal. Munchies, on the other hand, will growl and hiss at her as if she didn't know who she was. I was hoping that it would pass when we returned home. Alas, it did not.

I do have to mention that they will eat together and lounge in our screened-in porch watching lizards and birds. But when poor Odie wants to play, she gets shunned! Could this be linked to the Bartonella? My vet did mention that she does put out an odor only when the virus flares up. But this has been going on regardless of the virus.

I would appreciate any words of wisdom.

Liz
