The cat needs the first year of shots at the recommended intervals to build up immunity. However, research is proving that every 2-3 years is sufficient to keep the immunity levels up to par. If there is a good chance your cat will be exposed to these other cats, I would probably go with a 2 year vaccination schedule after the initial set. That's only what I would do.
