My Oreo is between 7-8 months old, and he is getting chubby. He isn't altered yet, but he is an indoor cat. I have been free feeding, and with all of my other cats I have done this until they are 1 year. I just don't want to cut back with him being so young, and have him lose necessary nutrients. I did switch him to an adult food about a month ago. Besides Oreo, we have another kitten, Trixie who is about 12-13 weeks old. What should I do? >> >>Thanks!! >> >>Kym
Free feeding isn't bad unless you have a cat or kitten who doesn't know when to stop eating. It sounds like Oreo may be in this category! Most cats do like to graze and eat on and off thru the day. Keep track of how much food you are actually putting out for Oreo. It should be within the feeding guidelines on the food package. If a cup of food is recommended, put half out in the morning and the other half in the evening. 7 or 8 months is an ideal time to get Oreo neutered, too, before he learns to spray or is tempted to take advantage of Trixie. Good luck and keep us posted!
