Once they start spraying...and that can start from the age of about 4-5 months...it is extremely difficult to get them to stop. And it's not an easy scent to get out of your house. Plus, unneutered male cats will fight very aggressively with other cats over the rights to a female in heat which they can smell from quite a distance away. He will try to get out of the house at every opportunity and probably howl if he catches wind of a female in heat.
