This is probably due to the climate change. Your cat feels a little colder than normal, but also there is the day light thing to consider. She would "know" it's winter even if you kept the heat on high. Since it takes more food to keep the body warm when it's cold she is probably instinctively eating more. I notice my cat's appetite has increased too.

You might want to give your vet a call just to be sure, but since she is gaining weight to go with the increased appetite there is probably nothing wrong. It would be worrisome if she were to be losing weight and eating more, however.
