You might want to consider feeding a very high premium cat food - check the labels of the foods advertised as such in your pet supply store. (grocery stores don't carry really high end food!) Avoid foods that list anything with corn - this is what can put weight on cats.

Also talk to your vet about the weight gain. He/She may have some additional suggestions - maybe it would be safe to cut the amount of food the female eats back a bit. Also the female may be OK without eating the kitten formula.
