We got Mr. Spock at 6 months old. He contracted lymphoma a year later and died. We kept him going for a couple of months at the end with chemotherapy (which was a lot cheaper than the 1-week stay in intensive care at the hospital!).

We also got L'il Abner at the same time as Spock; they were the best of pals! Abner was about 4 years old and contracted leukemia two years later. We were able to keep him alive through blood transfusions for a few more weeks, until we found out there was a shortage of donor kitties across the nation, and decided the donor blood should best be used for an accident victim or a kitty that had a chance at life. We had a visiting vet come to the house to perform euthanasia.

When we first brought the boys to out vet, she predicted that one would get lymphoma and the other become anemic and contract leukemia. How did she know? I can only think that she knew because of their age. So I guess kittens are more susceptible to lymphoma. (the chemo worked until the cancer got into his bone marrow; I guess chemo can't do its magic in marrow)

It was so heart-wrenching to have them die, but if we could go back, we'd do it again. They brought so much life and joy and love to our lives
