stray?

There is a cat who is always around our house. we don't know where she came from, but is always here. we think she is now pregnant and we don't know if she is a stray, or has an owner. somebody feeds her we never have but she always sleeps here. I'm not sure what to do for her, but would like to have her fixed after she births if thats what is going on. Is this a bad idea as she isn't ours? I feel a little bit responsible just because she has been sleeping here outside since she was a small kitten, about 5-6 months. she is a very nice cat, she even puts up with our 4 year old, and if we were allowed to have pets we probably would have taken her in.
I appreciate any advice. thanks
