I know this is a very old thread, but Im sure people are still looking considering how there are very few posts here.
As a raw feeder of 25 years, I can saw with utmost confidence that its a very safe diet. Between rescue/ rehomed cats, and my own pet cats, I have fed over 350 cats raw diets of some fashion. In my life, in the vet industry and in personal dealings, I have seen more cats become gravely ill from consuming processed commercial food, then from any other reason. While its not impossible for a cat to get ill from raw meat, its highly improbable. They are much more likely to get sick from eating commercial cat chow.
Common ailments I see from processed cat food are: *UTI *IBD *CRF *periodontal disease (and all the organ infection that comes with it) *obesity/ diabetes (hand in hand) *poor muscle tone and coat condition *heavy shedding *yeasty skin/ ear infections *problems with flea infestation etc
Unless a person can observe fist hand the difference in processed food fed cats and ones fed a more natural, whole foods diet, its difficult to fully grasp how much they truly differ in over all health. Ive heard it often, "My cat eats (fill in the brand of processed food) and looks great!" When some of these people have then met my cats, its obvious that they are a little bit shocked. The difference is best observed by seeing the animals right in front of you. Ive often seen conversations between raw proponents and processed food proponents get a bit nutty and out of hand at times. One reason is, for the raw side of the debate, words can only express so much for this argument. The animals and their condition is what speaks volumes.
Dr. Lonsdales book "Raw Meaty Bones Promote Health" is an excellent resource.
