Hi There,
Some cats actually become addicted to dry food and may refuse to eat canned. Your vet is right about canned food being better for cats because it is more natural for them. Cats are carnivores and all the carbs in dry food aren't good for them.
However, taking into consideration that your cat is adjusting to a new home, and is already stressed, I would give her whatever she wants for now. Cats that stop eating for more than a couple of days can start developing a very serious liver ailment, the last thing your baby would need.
What you can do is try different brands of canned foods mixed with dry in the meantime. It would be a step in the right direction if she goes for it. Also try not leaving dry food out all the time, and have specific mealtimes. She may just be hungry enough to give canned food a try. But as I said, it's not the time to let her go hungry if she won't touch the canned.
