Hi Everyone. I just wanted to give an update on Charlotte. A couple weeks ago she was sneezing and had runny eyes. I made an appt for the vet, then we proceeded to have two days of freezing rain. Our vet is WAY back, on a gravel road, so he was inaccessable. Over that two day period, the sneezing and runny eyes stopped. So we didn't end up going to the vet. Early last week, Charlotte started with an exaggerated swallow again, but no sneezing this time. She would pull back from my hand when I touched the left side of her face. I got her mouth open, and the breath... EWWWW! really BAD breath! Her teeth looked terrible. Off to the vet we went on Friday. She has significant tartar build up on her teeth, which is causing the bad breath, she has a fairly severe gum infection as well. The vet feels that the irritation from the tartar rubbing on her gums and cheeks, is why she pulls back from being petted on the side of her face, and the exaggerated swallowing is probably from the infection from her gums draining into her throat. He says it looks like she has a little bit of tonsillitis going on. She is taking Clindamycin to clear up the infection, and she is going back in next Thursday morning to have her teeth and gums cleaned. Poor girl! They did blood work on her, and she is borderline diabetic. Her glucose was at 12, so apparently it can be managed by diet. Once we get her weight down (she's 14lbs on a really fine boned frame) the blood sugar should come down too. He said that everything else cam back fine... her liver and kidneys are functioning fine.
So, that's the deal at this point. Hopefully once her teeth are fixed up, she'll be much more comfortable again, and will be around to purr me to sleep for a long, long time.
Here she is, showing off her shaved neck after her trip to the vet. They took the blood sample from her jugular vein...poor kitty!
And because she can't stand being left out...here is the High Priestess of Cattitude: Becky
