I am sorry about this diagnosis. There is no way to predict how long a cat who has kidney problems can last - some will live for several years and some will not.

The subQ fluids are about the only thing to make the cat feel better, although sometimes a vet will prescribe an anti-nausea med as well.

If you are willing to do it, subQ fluid administration at home is possible. There is also a thing called a gif tube that can help with this, although some cats do not tolerate it well.

Here are some websites about CRF. I think you will find them very useful in deciding on a course of treatment. By all means, consider a visit to the university if it is not too far.
