My cat is sick. She is a siamese that I have had for about six years now. About a week ago she began wheezing and I could tell she had fluid on her lungs. For three days in a row she has had a seizure. She looked dead and her tongue turned blue. Earlier today I took her to the vet at Petsmart. I am not working so I could pay for a visit and could buy medications, but I can't go the whole xray, animal hospital route. I told the receptionist that I would have to know what the charges would be before treatment. She told me if I wasn't willing to pay the $125 for xray's and the $90 for the blood work that I might as well not have the animal seen by a vet. So I left. Mad, but I didn't see that I had a choice. I think Jasimine is dying. She has always been a thin cat. She may either have cat flu, a congenital heart defect that is just causing problems, or some disease like cancer or leukemia. She has symptoms of being poisoned. I once put cat flea powder on one of my other cats and the cat had a reaction to the stuff and this cats symptoms are much like that. I quickly put other cat that was having a reaction to flea medication in a carrier and doused her with water. That was a while back and she recovered quickly. While the siamese is having symptoms like that, frothing at the mouth and showing symptoms of respiratory distress and actully seizing, if it were some kind of environmental poison she should still be sick after 4 days.
I have put the sick cat in a carrier and I put a heat pad on her. I mixed up some egg yolk and corn syrup with a little water and salt. I was giving her a tablespoon every hour. But just a few minutes ago I thought she had died. She flopped around a few times and then went limp and was still for a while. I started tapping her on her back and sides and she recovered again. So this time she didn't die. But it is just a matter of time. Now I know where the expression 9 lives comes from. She has appeared to be dead each time she has had the siezur.
I am beside myself, if anyone has any suggestions I sure would appreciate the advice. I wish I knew of something else to try.
Thanks, Jalexa
