Hi There,

No, hunger cannot cause the symptoms you have described.

It sounds to me that the cat was coughing and was weakened by the effort. I highly recommend a vet check, including chest x-rays to determine if this kitty has something like heart disease or feline asthma. Both conditions would require medication, and can be extremely serious.

If this type of thing happens again, please seek veterinary care for your kitty immediately.
