Hi There,

It's good to hear that Mason is home!

Remember, antibiotics are not effective against virusus, only bacterial infections. It sounds like the vet thinks Mason has feline herpes. Please ask the vet about giving him Lysine, 1/4 of a 500mg tablet, twice daily. It is very effective against the herpes virus. If your vet has Interferon available, it would also be helpful as it is an anti-viral.

I would feed Mason kitten food if he will eat it. The extra protein and fat might help him to gain some weight. But anything at all he will eat is ok. The important thing is to get him eating and keep him eating. If you have to force-feed Mason, it's not bad if you use a liquified food (put through a blender) and feed with a syringe. Hills A/D is excellent for this, with a little water added. Also, baby food can be force fed by syringe right out of the jar. An appetite stimulent may also be helpful with Mason.

Please keep us updated on how Mason does. I'll keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

Regards,
PHKitkat
