The answer my be very simple - an 8 week old kitten is still a baby - she may be too tired, too small to make the effort to get up and go to the litterbox in the middle of the night. Your kitten is like a small child - you know how they can run and play so hard but when they fall asleep - that's it? There is no waking them? Peeing on one side of the bed and sleeping on the other may be the most effort she can make after a hard day of being a growing kitten. It may be best to leave her in the bath with her litter box for a few more weeks.
If you can, wash the bedding she peed on with a enzyme cleaner for pet stains. It will kill the scent marker in the urine that signals "pee here!" You really don't want any trace scent to tell her its okay to pee on the bed as she gets older.
Stop back and let us know how she is growing!
Purrs, Elizabeth
