My dogs were very obsessive when I first got a new kitten. We have other cats in our house, but they were interested in this one because she was new. Once she had been around for a while and the novelty wore off, they stopped constantly following her around and sniffing her. As long as you don't think your dog will hurt the kitten I would just let them get to know each other.
