Good suggestions PHKitkat. I would like to add a couple suggestions of my own that have worked well for me. Sit in the room where the kitten is and take a book. Sit on the floor and read the book out loud. At first keep the kit in his cage, don't look at him or bother him in any way but occasionally put a nice treat in through the grates of the cage. After doing this a few times, he should start looking forward to reading/treat time. When he seems calm, open the cage door quietly, go sit on the floor and read to him some more. Let him make the move, continue slipping him a treat. Soon he will be used to your voice and the fact that you are not looking at him reassures him. Staring is a threat to a cat. With several sessions of this, he should slowly come out to see and sniff at you, when he does....don't move....don't stare at him just keep reading the book. Slowly drop him a treat. If he runs when your hand moves so be it, just continue reading and leave the treat where it fell, he will come back for it. When you look at him, look quickly and then avert your eyes from him. Don't reach for him or try to pick him up until he associates you with good things and for a kitten that is food. Thanks for saving this poor baby and let us know how he and you are doing.
