I had VPI Pet Insurance on all of my animals (5 total)...I found it was very valuable with Kittens since you got back in reimbursements more than you paid in premiums because kittens require shots, neuter, ect...plus kittens are more likely to get sick than older cats...I had the emergency and the well care riders and it was something like $12 a month each...

However,I found once the cats were above 1 year old though, it really wasn't worth it. Plus the insurance will not cover any sort of accident that has happened already...meaning...Bentley ate string and cost me big $$$ in surgery...it was the reason I took out insurance in the first place...to protect myself if it happened again (we have an embroidery machine)...however...they considered Bentley eating string a pre-existing condition and if it happened again they would not cover it....which did not make any sense...how they would consider a behavior the same as a medical condition...so I dropped his insurance. But with kittens there are no pre-existing conditions/behaviors so you are safe...as the kittens turned one year old I cancelled their policies, and then they started giving me a really hard time with the dogs so I just dropped them entirely.

But, In addition to the well visit shots, neuter, and flea prevention, VPI reinbursed me about $400 for Aston's medical bills which totaled about $1500, and about $300 for Fin's obstruction which ran me about $700...so for me the first year was definitely worth it...

Hope this helps...
