What do you generally do when you have a new cat in your home.. do you limit where in the house they are until you know they can get to the litter box okay? Do you initially let them wander the entire house while you are home and keep them say in a bedroom when you go out?

My memory of having a cat growing up was that he hung out in the kitchen most of the time sleeping and slept is his little bed in one of the bedrooms. My mother was particular about the hair so he only went in the living room if we carried him onto the couch ourselves. He was a very smart cat.. I dont plan on doing the same thing but I wanted to know how others handle a new cat in their home for the first time.

Ive heard tonks are jumpers but the breeder said they can be trained to stay off your counter tops or your tables for example. But I guess if you are not home they do whatever they choose!
