The jokes (which were good, I thought) made me wonder (and since I think you all are over 20).......
DH and I have commented the few years that you just can't joke with young clerks and waitresses because they don't seem to "get it", especially if it involves a play on words.
That's led to discussing between ourselves the reason for that. It's not that young people aren't bright. I think it's that they truly are not exposed to clever or witty off-the-cuff comments since everything is "canned" (media).
He blames the lack of appreciation of wit on the Sesame Street/ instant gratification Generation. (Don't tell him but there are several gens of those now!)
Of course, we both figure that the crudities accepted in today's society play a part. However, "off color" comments aren't new, it's just that things used to be couched in more subtleties.
