I had a really happy moment today. It's the simple things. Pookey was grooming himself quite seriously...

He has been off-balance since losing Stanley about 8 months ago and it is just recently I am seeing him finding some sense of normalcy.

He used to groom himself excessively when he was younger. EXCESSIVELY. He'd groom himself and then start grooming Stanley until I thought neither would have any fur left, LOL.

But, since he's gotten older and since losing Stanley, I haven't really seen him do much more than quickly clean his face and behind... Not his back, stomach, legs, etc. Today he really got into it.

He's also been purring a lot lately and letting me sleep better at night. He picked up night meowing since losing Stanley, was meowing a lot at night, and now he only really meows heavily around 5AM and wakes me. So, I am pretty happy to get pretty solid sleep from 11PM to 5AM most nights. I can usually get him calmed down after a few minutes and get a few more minutes of shut-eye before the alarm.

Was talking to my Mom last night and out of the blue, she mentioned how remarkable he has stayed cancer free since losing his leg 4 years ago to a rabies shot induced sarcoma.

All in all, for turning 17 in 3 months, he is very healthy for his age. No major Senior problems yet and really only takes simple medications. Hairball stuff for constipation (common that Senior cats go #2 less and it is harder) and I do have him on a very low dose of Cyproheptadine (1/4 tablet every other day) for appetite stimulation. He kind of forgets to eat after a day or two... Loses interest in eating much, started after losing Stanley. Every other day keeps him at a pretty healthy weight and eating pretty good...

He has a check-up next month. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thyroid and Kidney problems always loom on the horizon for Senior cats...
