Mom came home around my 16th birthday one night with two very young Guinea Pigs; one for me and one for my brother. I was crazy about Patches. He was with me for about four years before he passed on (they have a life expectency of 4-6 years). He was a great pet. We'd had dogs and cats, and a Guinea Pig was new to me. He was Very tame and loving. He purred a lot.

I thought of him the other day as my 5 year old niece has her first pet, a Guinea Pig named Freckles. He purred for her yesterday for the first time when she was petting his ears... She was so excited.
