Tammy, I'm so sorry that your parents are in the flood area and lost their house. Cedar Rapids and the surrounding areas are the worst that I've ever seen. My heart goes out to all whose lives are being torn apart by these floods.

It seems like it's never going to stop raining in Iowa. First we had a very long, cold and wet winter. Then Spring came bringing with it even more rain. Seems like it's been raining practically everyday the past few months. This is much worse than the floods of '93 where the state was paralyzed for several days. This time, though, we do have drinking water where we didn't in '93. That's in Des Moines though, I think that they have lost everything in the Cedar Rapids area.

The tornadoes are at their height in Iowa too, this year. First it was in Parkersburg where it ripped through the town and left many dead, then the other night, a tornado tore through a boy scout camp near Council Bluffs, killing 4 boy scouts and injuring many more.

I'm here in a suburb of Des Moines and have been lucky so far. We're about a mile from Johnston which is getting flood waters from the Saylorville Dam. Most of the Des Moines flooding is in the Birdland area and downtown Des Moines.

Driving to work, which is located on the outskirts of downtown Des Moines, and which had been evacuated due to the floods, was a horrendous ordeal Friday morning. I kept running into flooded areas and couldn't get into the parking lot. Finally I followed some other cars that were also trying to get in, and we went right through the flood waters. I was so scared. It wasn't that deep but it was so scary.

The flood waters have crested and receded now. However right now it's starting to storm all over again.
