I took Pookey to the vet last night (18 yrs old, bloody nose); see post below if interested. From my experience, I want to share something new in medicine, per my vet.
They gave him a long lasting antibiotic shot for sinus infection before we treat for something more serious (tumor). It is about a year old on the market and called "Convenia". It is used in cats/dogs for many infections (Colds, Urinary Infections...) One injection lasts 14 days, no more pilling your pet twice a daily.
Something to ask your vet about. Mine has had really good luck with it. For reference, my vet charged by pet weight for it. $2 a pound (8 lbs = $16 for the shot). Even if it costs a little more in your area, imagine not having to pill twice a day for 14 days for a URI or UTI or other common infections they get thru their lives. ----- Tammy and Pookey (Stanley 8/91 - 8/07)
