Well, I have always been sort of an unofficial rescuer. The stray cat problem in Mexico is a lot worse than here in States, of course, so whenever the authorities find stray cats and dogs they go straight to be euthanized.
I had tons of cats, along with all kinds of imaginable creatures when I was a kid (of course my mom would take care of them when I was too young) and I rescued injured or pregnant cats and find them homes after a while.
Then I got a goggie and he was with us for 14 years, with no other pets in the family. When I came here for my studies he lived with my brother. He passed away two years ago.
Now I have Bob who was born in a dirty old basement and was rescued along with his bro. I just kept one of the babies, but I still wish I have kept both. He was filthy, stinky, with goopy eyes, fleas and the runs. The vet bill was higher than his weight, hehe and I had to bottle feed him cause he didn't know what kitten food was meant for. But now he is a happy kid in my home
I live in an apartment so I can only have two furry pets. Every once in a while I stop by the shelter and help out a little or donate food and soap, which are SO necessary and that makes me feel a little bit less guilty for not helping in a more committed way.
