Cookie continues to improve! Her neck is almost completely healed and the fur is growing back nicely. She's also gained a few pounds and has become more interested in her surroundings.
She still lives in the quarantine area of the shelter but at this rate should be ready to join the other cats who are available for adoption.

There is a certain protocol to be followed whenever I visit. I pull up a chair, she starts talking to me, I open her kennel door and while I have a seat, she goes from cage to lap and bumps me in the chest with her head. She loves attention and purrs her head off. After a few minutes of this, she goes from lap to cage and has a snack. Then it's back to my lap and more petting.

When Cookie first arrived, she liked to nip on my fingers while petting her. She did this a lot and I've noticed that habit has decreased quite a bit now. She likes to reach up and bite my chin but that's about it. I know cats will sometimes do this sort of thing as an affectionate gesture but I'm wondering if she did it so much at the beginning because of insecurity, relief, etc?? It certainly seems to have stopped now that life has stabilized for her.

I appreciate the responses to my previous posting. Sorry it took so long for me to get back. I'm originally from New Orleans and I've spent some serious time worrying about family down there and trying to help from a distance. Luckily, the area where my parents live suffered no flood damage from Katrina. Their neighborhood had a lot of wind damage but nothing to the extent seen on the news.

Will try to write more about the cats later. I'm off to the shelter!
