My five year old cat is FeLV and began to exhibit symptoms of anemia several days ago. We made the decision to attempt to treat the anemia and our vet gave us a steroid medication, an antibiotic to treat the parasite causing the anemia, and an appetite stimulant, which, frankly is not working very well. Since we began the medications her fever dropped and her declining red blood cell count stabilized, but it is still extremely low. We have begun giving her Epogen to stimulate red blood cell generation.

So, here's my question. While she still does not eat, she has begun drinking water again. While I am glad that she is beginning to hydrate again, I am worried it might be a side-effect of the Epogen or a symptom of another problem, such as a urinary issue or kidney problems. What do you think? Is her water-drinking now a sign of potential recovery or of something worse? Have you heard of Epogen stimulating water drinking? Finally, what is your take on the course of medications prescribed by our vet? With the exception of the appetite stimulant, they all seem to be working so far, but is there something more holistic we could try, too? A particular vitamin or supplement perhaps?
